Heron formula

Heron formula

In geometry, Heron's formula (sometimes called Hero's formula), named after Hero of Alexandria, gives the area of a triangle when the length of all three sides are known. Unlike other triangle area formulae, there is no need to calculate angles or other distances in the triangle first.

linear equation

                            linear equation

In mathematics, a linear equation is an equation that may be

put in the form where are the variables, and are the

coefficients, which are often real numbers. The coefficients

may be considered as parameters of the equation, and may

be arbitrary expressions, provided they do not contain any of

the variables.

Polynomials: Definitions & Evaluation | Purplemath

A polynomial is an expression that can be built from constants and symbols called indeterminates or variables by means of addition, multiplication and exponentiation to a non-negative integer power. Two such expressions that may be transformed, one to the other, by applying the usual properties of commutativity, associativity and distributivity of addition and multiplication are considered as defining the same polynomial.

A polynomial function is a function that can be expressed in the form of a polynomial. The definition can be derived from the definition of a Polynomial functions. A polynomial is generally represented as P(x). The highest power of the variable of P(x)is known as its degree. Degree of a polynomial function is very important as it tells us about the behaviour of the function P(x) when x becomes very large. The domain of a polynomial function is entire real numbers (R).

What is Polynomial

What is Polynomial

Many common functions are polynomial functions. In this unit we describe polynomial functions and look at some of their properties. In order to master the techniques explained here it is vital that you undertake plenty of practice exercises so that they become second nature. After reading this text, and/or viewing the video tutorial on this topic, you should be able to:

 • Recognise when a rule describes a polynomial function, and write down the degree of the Polynomial,
 • Recognize the typical shapes of the graphs of polynomials, of degree up to 4,
 • Understand what is meant by the multiplicity of a root of a polynomial,
 • Sketch the graph of a polynomial, given its expression as a product of linear factors.
